AP Courses

AP courses, namely Advanced Placement courses, are college – level academic courses in high school sponsored by the College Board and recognized worldwide. AP pre – courses are preparatory learning programs launched by the College Board to help students get fully ready for AP courses.

  1. Nature and Objectives: They are designed to provide high school students with college – level learning opportunities, enabling them to get exposed to higher – education content in advance. Excellent AP exam results can not only be used as credits but also serve as an important basis for American universities to admit students.
  2. Subject Settings: There are 38 subjects in 7 categories, including arts, English, history and social sciences, mathematics and computer science, natural sciences, world languages and literatures, and capstone diploma programs. Popular subjects among Chinese students include calculus, statistics, computer science, physics, macroeconomics, and microeconomics.
  3. Examination Information: Registration is in autumn every year, and the exam is in May of the following year. The scoring is on a 5 – point scale, with 5 representing excellent, 4 representing good, and 3 representing qualified. Generally, a score of 4 or above can be exchanged for college credits, and in some schools, a score of 3 or above is acceptable.
